Here you will find the answers to the questions we get asked most frequently.

1. What is hypnosis and how does it work?

There are many myths surrounding hypnosis. However, it is a naturally occurring state of mind which everyone experiences daily, e.g. daydreaming, being so engrossed in a television program or a book that you are oblivious to what is happening around you, etc. These are forms of self-hypnosis!

Hypnosis is really a deep state of relaxation. It is an altered state of awareness, similar to meditation. Your analytical conscious mind is bypassed, allowing communication with your unconscious (sometimes called subconscious) mind. Your unconscious mind becomes open to suggestions. During this state, you are in control of the whole process and your mind will only accept suggestions that it believes will be beneficial for you.

Your unconscious mind is responsible for the regulation of your physical body, storing your memories and is the source of your emotions and feelings. When you want to change a behaviour or thought pattern, you need to make those changes at an unconscious level. Hypnosis works because it facilitates open communication with your inner mind.

2. Will self-hypnosis work for me?

Everybody is unique and will experience hypnosis in different ways. Some people naturally go into a deep trance while others will only reach a light level to begin with. If you have meditated then you are more likely to experience a deeper level.

It doesn't matter how deep a trance you experience, there will be benefits. Repetition is important - this is one of the reasons that many of our sessions are about 20 minutes long. We have found that people tend to listen to longer sessions less frequently as it can be difficult to make the time to do so. You are more likely to find 20 minutes in a busy day to listen to the session. The more often you listen, the more your mind learns to trust the process and the deeper you will go, leading to stronger results. The key is to play the sessions as often as you can - at least once a day for the first seven days and then at least every second day..

Some people feel that they have difficulty relaxing and think that this will stop them from achieving any benefits from hypnosis. It doesn't matter how little or how deeply you relax, you can still make some changes. Try not to think about it or worry about it. Simply listen to the voice on the recording and try to follow the instructions.

To begin with, some people find self-hypnosis harder than others. It gets easier with practice so keep listening and stop thinking about whether it is working or not!

3. How long will it take before I notice a difference?

Everybody is unique and the time needed varies greatly from person to person. Some people have a breakthrough experience while others have a gradual change. Some people notice a change after one session while others may not notice anything for a few weeks. Sometimes the person may not notice any change at all but other people do. For example a person who has been working to become more even-tempered and less angry may just think that nothing has happened to trigger their anger. They have changed so much that they are no longer noticing things that would have made them feel angry in the past. Sometimes other people notice the changes before the person becomes aware of  them.

We are all different - it is best to simply relax and trust yourself to make the changes. There are many studies which show that hypnotherapy is effective at helping people to change their thoughts and behavior. Remember that the more you listen to the recordings, the faster the changes will happen.

4.  Is self-hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of awareness - it is deep relaxation, similar to meditation. Your mind controls the process and will reject any suggestions that it does not agree with. You can open your eyes and bring yourself out of trance at any time you wish.

5. How do your recordings work?

Hypnosis is basically a state of deep realxation. The hypnotherapist guides you into a state of relaxation through the use of suggestions. This is similar to a daydream state. Your hearing becomes more acute and you simply feel very relaxed. The hypnotherapist will then distract your conscious awareness, possibly through giving it a simple task, such as counting. While your conscious awareness is distracted, your unconscious mind is open to positive suggestions.

Sometimes, the hypnotherapist will use visual imagery or metaphors to help you make the changes you want to make. You may also be given post-hypnotic suggestions. These are suggestions that you will follow when you are not in the hypnotic state. Examples of these would be feeling more confident, choosing to eat healthy foods, etc.

At all times, your mind controls the process and can reject any suggestions that it does not want to accept. You are in control during the whole session. You cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to. For example, if you are trying to stop smoking because your partner wants you to stop but you really enjoy smoking and don't want to give it up, then the chances of you stopping smoking are slim. This is because the part of you that enjoys smoking will reject the suggestions.

Self-hypnosis works because it is helping you to change the things you want to change - but you have to want to change them.

6. How long are your self-hypnosis sessions?

That varies from session to session but most are 15 to 25 minutes long. A few are 30 minutes. While you will find other downloads on the internet that are 40 or even 50 minutes long, we think that this is just too long! Self-hypnosis is most successful when it is practised on a daily basis. In our busy lives, it is hard to find an hour every day to listen to a recording. This is one of the reasons that we have kept our processes shorter - you are more likely to be able to lfind 15 to 20 minutes every day than an hour.

Even in a clinical setting, most hypnotherapists would not use more than thirty minute long trances because, after that length of time, most people have 'had enough'. There is little or no benefit to a longer trance as your mind starts to switch off from the process.

7. Why are your recordings different to others?

Linda is a practising hypnotherapist who helps her clients to achieve outstanding changes, through the latest techniques of hypnotherapy and NLP.. The processes that she has recorded have been used successfully in her clinical practice with many clients. While many other recordings on the market offer 3D voice effects and other sound effects, we believe that these are unnecessary to, and may even hinder, the success of the process. We have tried to recreate the atmosphere of a live session with your therapist, where none of these techniques would be available.

Unlike other downloads that you can buy on the internet, most of our recordings are available in two endings. This is because we recognise that many people like to drift off to sleep after listening. They do not appreciate being told to open their eyes, feeling alert! We are the only site (that we know of) that gives you this choice and control.

8. Is it better to visit a hypnotherapist or use self-hypnosis?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. When you visit a hypnotherapist, you get individual attention and the process can be tailored to meet your specific needs and problems. Obviously this is not the case with self-hypnosis recordings. Most hypnotherapists, however, will recommend the use of recordings and some (including Linda)  will offer CDs to their clients as part of their therapy. They do this because they know that the more often you hear the suggestions, the quicker and more effective, the change will be.

And then there is the issue of cost - a few sessions with a hypnotherapist can set you back hundreds of dollars while a download is less than twenty!

If you are interested in an individual session with Linda, she can conduct a session with you over the phone. This can be a very effective way of releasing blocks that are stopping you from making the changes you want to make.

9. Can children use self-hypnosis?

Many children benefit from self-hypnosis techniques. They often make the changes much faster than adults as they are more in touch with their imaginations and have had less long-term negative 'programming'. Be sure to supervise your child's use of the recordings.

10. Why do you have a warning message?

Although there is much scientific evidence for the safety of hypnosis, some doctors and therapists believe hypnosis should not be used by people who suffer from conditions like epilepsy, depression and other psychiatric conditions. We are not doctors, nor are we personally supervising your use of our products. Therefore, we feel that it is better that people who suffer from those conditions check with their doctor before they use our products.

11. What's the best time to listen to the recordings?

This varies from person to person. Some people prefer to listen to them in the morning while others prefer to relax to them in the evening. That is why most of our recordings come with two endings - you choose which time works best for you. The only time that you should not listen to recordings is when you are doing anything that requires your focus and attention, such as driving or operating machinery.

Back to index

12. How often should I listen to the sessions?

During the first thirty days, it is best to listen to them at least once every day. Twice a day is good but we do not recommend any more than that as you will exhaust your mind and it will start to 'switch off'. After the first month, you can continue to listen to them every day if you like - listen to them as often as you feel the need.

Back to index

13. Can I use more than one self hypnosis session at once?

If the sessions are on a related topic, this approach will work well. When you buy one of our packages, for example, you are buying sessions that have been created to work well together. However, sometimes it is best to concentrate on one issue at a time. For example, weight management and stop smoking work best when they are dealt with separately.

Back to index

14. Can I listen to two or more sessions, one right after another?

If you feel that you are maintaining your focus during the sessions, then you can listen to two sessions one after the other, provided thay are on a related topic (see above). Everybody is different but most people will find that one session at a time is enough. After that, their minds tend to 'switch off' from the process.

Back to index

15. How many can I listen to in a day?

Two sessions a day is plenty! You can listen to the same session in the morning and in the evening plus one other, different session but we recommend that you do not listen to more than two different sessions every day.
